Integrated Approach NRD

National Refugee Development Initiative

When AtlasBridges became involved in the immigration case in 2010, we knew very well how difficult our task would be. We also knew that the road would be long and full of pitfalls. But we are not discouraged. Driven by the relentless desire to contribute to the human development of these refugees, the difficulties have only strengthened our resolve. Now that the Atlasbridges Foundation is about to blow out its 20th candle, it is clear that the results are very positive. The aim pursued by the creation of this new structure is to enable socially disadvantaged population groups to develop their capacities and skills to increase their chances of integration in the host countries. And after their integration into social-professional life. In a nutshell, it's about helping them get back on track and regain hope. Despite the increased importance attached to this underprivileged population, we have maintained the same interest as in the past in people who have fled, traumatized, disabled. In fact, we have committed to changing the approach we have always had towards aid in favor of these social categories.

Formula

Instead of providing them with material assistance sporadically, we decided to qualify them and develop their capabilities. The aim is to make them less dependent on "seasonal charity activities" and, so to speak, make them stronger. These people are now initiated to undertake income generating activities that suit their talents and physical capabilities. It is a way to prepare for their effective integration into their new life and especially the socio-professional career. Because for us, as long as the status holder is considered a passive element, its social integration remains a wishful thinking.

NRD initiative

It should be noted that our new National Refugee Development Initiative has played an important and integral role in this change in approach. Our President's enlightened view regarding the advancement of the condition of socially disadvantaged population groups has inspired us greatly. Our team therefore had to follow this new logic and route, which consists of empowering the refugee and teaching him to tap into his energy and make the most of his potential. But whether it concerns Migrants or Status Holders, it is the same struggle and the same commitment: contributing to the social development of the Netherlands and contributing our part to building the prosperous and united world we strive for.
