First of all, there is a broad need in Dutch society to become more inclusive as a society in how we deal with diversity. This inclusive awareness is also growing in how we view our history and cultural heritage. There is a growing desire to broaden the collective memory of the Netherlands by giving different communities a place in the archive landscape. AtlasBridges meets this demand by achieving this from the Muslim community(s). AtlasBridges is open to collaboration with various parties, such as other platforms, various social organizations and universities.

In addition, there is a strong need from the Dutch Muslim community itself to record and preserve its own cultural and religious heritage for future generations. In the past, attempts have been made to record the Islamic heritage of Dutch Muslims in other platforms, to make them more diverse. However, these attempts always fall short or never get off the ground. One of the reasons is that the Muslim community(s) themselves are not involved or are not sufficiently involved, or do not recognize themselves in the relevant stages. The AtlasBridges Archive has a greater chance of success because this is an initiative from the Dutch Muslim community(s) and it proactively works to gain broad support within the various Muslim communities by actively approaching and involving them.
