50 Years of Moroccan Migration!

The National Initiative “Half a Century of Moroccan Migration, a Shared History” was founded with the aim of extensively reflecting on the migration history of Moroccans. The direct reason was that on 14 May 2019 it was half a century ago that the Netherlands and Morocco signed a recruitment treaty in which Moroccan labour migration to the Netherlands was officially regulated. In light of this historic event, the National Platform 'Half a Century of Moroccan Migration, a Shared History' organised activities throughout the year to reflect on this special history.

On this website and on our Facebook page you will find information about the background and activities of the celebration. With our initiative we hoped to tell, share and pass on the rich history of Moroccan migration. With this project we wanted to invite everyone to seize the 50-year celebration to get inspiration from each other's stories.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the exhibition, website and this publication, and the many supporters - from funds to municipalities - for their support and cooperation. The National Platform 'Half a Century of Moroccan Migration, a Shared History' consisted of the following organisations: EMCEMO, AtlasBridges, Marmoucha Foundation, Moroccan Dutch Collaboration, Mudawannah National Working Group, Moroccan Senior Citizens Association Netherlands, Multicultural Youth Sound (The Hague), Project Group 50 Years of Guest Workers Utrecht, Attifa (Utrecht), Provincial Platform for Diversity (Limburg), Aknarij Foundation (Amsterdam), Argan Foundation (Amsterdam), Digital Delfshaven Foundation (Rotterdam), Project Group First Generation Moroccans (Veenendaal), Gilbert van Schoonbeke Foundation (Veenendaal), Inclusia Foundation (Rotterdam), More Colour and Quality Foundation (Limburg), Multicultural Schiedam Foundation, Future Youth Foundation (Rotterdam), Father and Son Foundation (Rotterdam), Foundation for Social Participation (Rotterdam), Moroccan Women Feijenoord Working Group (Rotterdam), Neighbourhood Fathers (Gouda), Moroccan Parents' Council Foundation (Amersfoort), Network of Organizations of Older Migrants (Utrecht), Tumba (Leeuwarden).
